Valentine, o, Valentine,
I'll be your love and you'll be mine.
We'll care for each other, rain or fine,
and in 90 years we'll be 99.

•• National Museum of the U.S. Air Force from Dayton is the world's largest and oldest military aviation museum. You can find there many Polish signs.

•• Thanks to Marcin S. for shering with us his VIDEO from one of the best boat trips in Florida. Full of respect for our boaters!

•• Sporting Kansas City had its first match of the preseason today, getting off to a good start with a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes. The winning strike was provided by midfielder Konrad Warzycha, son of Eliza and Robert, who stepped up to take the free kick ."It felt great, especially after being hurt all last year." said Konrad, who missed his rookie season after undergoing microfracture knee surgery. "It just feels good not to be watching from the sidelines anymore." Congratulations!

•• Wednesday, February 1, 2012 - Wislawa Szymborska, Polish poet, essayist and translator, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1996, died in her sleep of lung cancer at the age of 89. The Nobel award committee's 1996 citation called her the "Mozart of poetry," a woman who mixed the elegance of language with "the fury of Beethoven" and tackled serious subjects with humor. Her verse, seemingly simple, was subtle, deep and often hauntingly beautiful. She used simple objects and detailed observation to reflect on larger truths, often using everyday images - an onion, a cat wandering in an empty apartment, an old fan in a museum - to reflect on grand topics such as love, death and passing time. ...Dying--you wouldn't do that to a cat. "Cat in an empty apartment" W.Szymborska

•• Severe winter weather has brought dangerous conditions and transport disruption to Poland. Hospitals across the country have implemented major incident plans to deal with the weather. Officials have established heated, indoor areas where the homeless can find a bed and a hot meal.

•• The next time you hear Polish joke, substitute your own background for Polish, or just insert American. See if it's just as funny to you. During a speech to the Columbus Metropolitan Club on January 11th, OSU President E.G.Gee compared the problem of coordinating the school’s colleges to the “Polish army". Alex Storozynski, president of The Kosciuszko Foundation, has written a letter to OSU's board of trustees demanding that Gee be reprimanded for the comment.
Dear Mr. Storozynski: I'd like to congratulate you on your letter concerning Mr. Gee's unfortunate words on Poland and the Polish Army. As a professor emeritus of OSU I regret such a scandal committed by the University president. I suggest your letter should be also sent to The Columbus Dispatch, the largest paper in Columbus, Ohio. With regards, Dr. Jerzy R. Krzyzanowski, Professor Emeritus

•• FC Eagles - we lost the 2nd game. Our team needs fans for support.

•• Finally, we have snow. Children and skiers are delighted.

FC Eagles
FC EAGLES in its first match - our local Polonia soccer team took the pitch like pros against team Duhh Win. Our Eagles dominated their opponents within the first 10 minutes, running up a 4-0 lead. The shut out didn't last for long as our team began to run out of steam--and alternates. Over the next 50 minutes Duhh Winn scratch out five goals, but The Eagles added two to win the match 6-5. The win came at a price, though, our team sustaining a foot injury and a knee injury.
All games take place on Wednesdays at various times (based on the schedule ABOVE) at Sports Ohio - Soccer First, 6490 Dublin Park Dr, Dublin, OH 43016 (map). Marek P. who organized the team in a very short time deserves an applause! So far we have 11 players, but we need 7 more. We also need fans to support the team! Contact: Mario tel. 740-802-0080.

Be prepared to renew your annual PAC Membership at the PAC Wigilia event. This seems a good way to make it easier for each of us to know when membership is due. In addition, by simplifying the renewal process in this way, it is respectful of the amount of officer/volunteer time committed to tracking membership, and is an effective way to minimize the use of dues money for mailing costs.

TK
Thaddeus Kosciuszko Park
The City Council of Dublin, inspired by bookThe Peasant Prince: Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the Age of Revolution” by Alex Storozynski, voted to set part of Kosciuszko's former property (the northeast corner of Riverside Drive and Hard Road) as "Thaddeus Kosciuszko Park." 09-11

9/11/2001 - 9/11/2011

An important anniversary in the history of the United States is upon us. This Sept. 11 marks 10 years since jet planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and in rural Pennsylvania, killing 2,973 people and sparking the U.S. war on terror.
There were likely more than 11 pregnant victims of the 9/11 attacks. The phrase "and her unborn child" follows the names of the expectant mothers.

•• Tuesday, September 6th: Poland vs. Germany.

CAMP 2011
This year the Alum Creek Camp was full of young energy. There were about thirty children attending, including a three-month-old Urszula along with her handsome older brothers. In addition to our locals, we had guests from Cincinnati and Cleveland. It was too hot to play volleyball more than just a few minutes, but the weather was perfect for water sports. Later, we made up with excess for burned calories at a shared table with our wonderful meal taking place in a rain of leaves. It was yet another time this year that nature offered us such an amazing phenomenon! While Friday and Saturday were hot, Sunday - after a stormy night - was rainy. Still, kielbasa roasted over a campfire provisionally set up under an umbrella tasted great. Thanks to PAC we celebrated last beautiful weekend of the summer. We owe a thank you to Robert and volunteers for organizing such a wonderful event. See you next year!

Cichho Sza
On the first Saturday in August we were invited to the Ohio Theatre for an evening of poetry, TRANSITUS."Cicho Sza (Quiet Shh)" we know and like, so the crowds arrived. The band in a slightly modified composition, strengthened by professional musicians, led us into the mood of nostalgia and sadness interspersed with hilarity. The scene was set with flowers, dim light, songs, poems, anecdotes, ... Beautiful ladies and handsome gentlemen. The repertoire also included a nod to the English-speaking spectators. During the break - wine, snacks. Supposedly an amateur band but what a appropriately professional venture. Thank you and we ask, please, more such events!

• During the August PAC meeting, once again we've discussed the opportunity to create THE POLISH HOME. If interested, please contact: Jurek Ch tel. 614.214.4179, or Jay M.

• Wanda was in possession of many Polish books. Now her sons want to donate them to the PAC. The PAC Board has already received book donations from Polish families (Testani, Mikulscy), but due to lack of the Club’s own facility, books are stored in the warehouse. Also, the already obsolete bi-lingual Mass books "The Lord be with you" could enrich the Polish library. At a meeting of the PAC in 06 '2011 it was unanimously decided to start cooperation with the friendly library in Upper Arlington, where PACanów and Aerobic classes take place. We want to give those books to them along with the Polish bibliography. We hope they agree to organize a Polish book section and to place a proper plaque on it, for example, "Wanda Sever - Polish Books." If negotiations are successful, we anticipate the opening in October, the Polish American Heritage Month.

•• Noc Świętojańska which means St. John's Night is celebrated by Slavic in the night from the 23rd of June to the 24th of June. This night is associated with water, magic, fertility, trees, flowers, and herbs. It is kind of Valentine's Day, just closer to the nature and magic. You can feel the substitute of St. John's Night attending the WaterFire exhibit. Especially the first WaterFire is planned for Friday, June 24th.

•• Cat Welfare Association invites you for EXTRAVAGANZA, Tuesday, June 21st, and for PIZZA PARTY, Thursday, June 23th.

;-( Summer is best known as poison ivy season. Poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac are plants that contain an irritating, oily sap may be carried on the fur of pets, clothing, shoes, toys, tools, or other objects and then transferred to the skin. Once the rash begins its symptoms, the untreated rash will usually last from 14-30 days before healing is completed. In severe exposures to these poison oils, allergic reactions can occur which can be life threatening and prolong the healing process for months.

Wednesday, March 23 '2011, Los Angeles, CA - Screen icon Elizabeth Taylor passes away at age 79.

• Saturday's (March 19th) full moon will be a super "perigee moon" -- the biggest in almost 20 years. Full moons look different because of the elliptical shape of the moon's orbit. When it's at perigee, the moon is about 31,000 miles (50,000 km) closer to Earth than when it's at the farthest point of its orbit, also known as apogee.

spring
On the sunny though windy Saturday afternoon the Polish army of 60 (including children, dogs end one guitar)  got rid of this winter. As in many previous years we have met in one of the shelters in Highbanks Metro Park. There were many late comers, maybe because they were still adjusting to the recent time change. We stayed on the schedule though and went on the offensive at 3 pm.  With singing and music (thanks to Tomek), and noise makers we led Marzanna  to the stream where she was drowned. This was not enough - we also burned this symbol of the passing winter to make sure it does not come back. Confident of our victory we proceeded with a feast to replenish burned calories. Tasty kielbaski, shish kabobs, a bean soup, salads, cakes, cookies.
Thank you for coming and please join us for other equally interesting events organized by the PAC.

The devotion to Divine Mercy is based on the writings of St.Faustina, a 20th century Polish mystic (see: movie, diary). Jesus appeared to her and spoke to her about His infinite love and mercy. Through sister Faustina, Lord Christ has given the aching world new channels for the outpouring of His grace:

Polonia Wigilia 2010

1

Every holiday gathering "Wigilia" of our Polish community organized by the PAC is different but each one is full of charm and unforgettable moments. This time we welcomed father Eugeniusz Linowski. His warm words and the blessings created a truly holy and homelike atmosphere for the gathered. Everybody was amazed by the PACanow performance. Especially the size of the class and how well the students behaved and were organized by Malgosia and Zuzia, the instructors. We were impressed with the skill level of the other performers organized by Beata-Melanie, Madison, Mateusz and Nikolas. Our musicians, Tomek and Bronek, were fantastic as usual. The rest of the evening was also very successful thanks to the vocal performance of Luba’s group, the entertaining party hosts-Marek and Mike, enthusiasm on the little faces during the visit of Santa Claus, the joy of the winners of the “We All Are Children” ruffle organized by Marzena and the surprise gift of the lovely flowers for the sponsors and the volunteers donated by Wanda. We also noted the smooth bar tending by Ted and his helpers, the professional welcoming by Dave’s group at the entrance and of course the wonderful and tasty traditional homemade Christmas Eve dishes prepared by all the guests. What else would anyone need?

Preparation ...
On the morning of Saturday, December 11th the simple and modest interior of Eagle Hall Club was transformed into a festive and charming room ready to accommodate 200 guests. At 10 am that morning twenty volunteers, their age span 11 to 88, started moving, hanging, unpacking, hammering, taping, pinning, setting up, putting together, decorating, ….. so our Polish Christmas Eve party could take place in a proper and presentable setting. Thank you!

There were no Polish concentration camps in World War II. Auschwitz and other such camps in Polish territory were operated by German Nazis.

The Wall Street Journal Essential Guide to Business Style and Usage, Nov.29 '2010

Thank you to everyone who sign up the Kosciuszko Foundation's petition, especially to President of Poland, Mr.Bronislaw Komorowski.

• WHEREAS the media uses the historically erroneous terms "Polish concentration camp" and "Polish death camp" to describe Auschwitz and other Nazi extermination camps built by the Germans during World War II, which confuses impressionable and undereducated readers, leading them to believe that the Holocaust was executed by Poland, rather than Nazi Germany,
WHEREAS these phrases are Holocaust revisionism that desecrate the memories of six million Jews from 27 countries who were murdered by Nazi Germany,
WHEREAS Poland was the first country invaded by Germany, and the only country whose citizens suffered the death penalty for rescuing Jews, yet never surrendered during six years of German occupation, even though one-sixth of its population was killed in the war, approximately half of which was Christian,
WHEREAS educated journalists must know these facts and not cross the libel threshold of malice by using phrases such as "Polish concentration camps." BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the undersigned request that The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and the Associated Press, include entries in their stylebooks requiring news stories to be historically accurate, using the official name of all "German concentration camps in Nazi-occupied Poland," as UNESCO did in 2007 when it named the camp in Auschwitz, "The Auschwitz-Birkenau German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940-1945)."
Go to Sign PETITION.

PAC has been approached by the Polish Legion of American Veterans or PLAV to start a post in central Ohio. PLAV is a veterans organization open to all active members of our armed forces and honorably discharged veterans. PLAV is a U.S. Congressionally Chartered American Veterans Organization open to all honorably discharged American veterans and certain allied veterans as specified in the PLAV National Constitution. PLAV was originally organized by American Veterans of Polish descent at the end of World War I. It is a nationwide organization which operates in 14 states and has members in many more. You do not have to be Polish to be a member of PLAV. Nor do you have to be a member of the Polish American Club.
On November 18th Dave Bergman, PAC Treasurer and Ted Young, PAC Trustee met with the State of Ohio Commander Ken Milenovic from Post #30, Frank Kowalski, Finance Director from Post #30, and John Pestovic, Adjutant from Post #30 in Cleveland. They came down to Westerville where we discussed at length starting a post here. We need a minimum of 10 members to form a post. When we have the membership we elect a Post Commander and other officers to serve. Once we are formed funds will be provided to acquire flags and other items needed by the club. These funds are provided by PLAV's Department of Ohio. This is a great opportunity for veterans to again serve their country by helping to insure that no benefits are denied to those who served their country and support legislation intended to those who earned the right to the benefits being considered. Being a member of PLAV helps to maintain the comradeship that you held so dear during your time of service to our great country.
If you are interested in becoming a member or have questions concerning PLAV, please contact: Dave Bergman tel. 614-890-3442 or Ted Young tel.614-326-1543.

A new book of poems by Nobel laureate Wislawa Szymborska is an occasion to celebrate. When Here was published in Poland, reviewers marveled, "How is it that she keeps getting better?". These twenty-seven poems (listen to Szymborska read one of them: Metaphysics), as rendered by prize-winning translators Clare Cavanagh and Stanislaw Baranczak, are among her greatest ever. The original, in Polish, is presented on the left hand side, the English translation on the right. Prefect gift for your friends and family, especially for a person with the Polish roots.

Our local Hungarian Cultural Association is looking to get in touch with the Polish American Club here in Columbus, because they want to plan some joint event for their annual commemoration of Hungary ‘56 (this year it will be Sunday, Oct 24, at the Hungarian Reform Church down in German village). They were looking for someone to give a talk about the Polish perspective on Hungary ‘56...They pay a speaker’s fee, too —like more than $100. And a free lunch afterwards! Then I thought maybe someone from PAC would be a good candidate. Anyone who was around in ‘56 could simply share personal memories of the time, etc.

1 International Festival
Marysville, Ohio

October 14, 2010

2 3 4
The forth annual International Festival in Marysville was the biggest yet, with cultural exhibits and food from more than 30 countries. One of the countries being displayed was Poland. Gosia Cymbal with family including her father Marian proudly represented Poland. Gosia prepared "Bigos" and seemed to satisfy American taste buds. People came back and ask for seconds. Natalia (Gosia’s daughter) was dressed in traditional Polish outfit of "Krakowianka".
The event was sponsored by the International Family Center of Union County. The first event four years ago was held primarily for students. Six countries were represented. Large crowds last year and anticipated larger crowds this year necessitated a move from the center to the gymnasium at the new Ohio National Guard Training Center adjacent to the YMCA in Marysville. The International Festival was a big success in American culture by opening people’s eyes and widening their horizons. (mc)

Pictured are the most avid soccer fans from Fun Club 304. This group, without sparing the effort and the cost, went to Chicago to witness the game between the Polish (in the red uniforms)  and the USA national teams. Thanks to Marek M., we were organized and unified, and the well playing athletes did not disappoint us. The activities of the local fans from the Polish section of Soldier Field  made it a great adventure. In the huge crowd, we managed to meet with the Kliwlend Kru and other friends scattered all over this country whom we have not seen in ages. Some of us continued the evening in the night club while others attended the Sunday Mass and more. Aren’t you jealous?

All of the participants of our Polish Mass on September 9th were again invited to a private garden party. All of the previous gatherings were full of charm but this one, on Jurek's property, was exceptional. We were treated to a poetic / music performance called "The Autumn" by "Cicho Sza" group. They were joined by the local talent on the stage set up in the garden, equipped with lights and speakers. It was nostalgic and humorous. It goes without saying that the host took care of not only the "food for thought". The hungry were fed and the thirsty were given drink. Is there such parish but not exactly parish anywhere else in the world?

• During the Polish Mass on Sept.19th we witnessed another Baptism, a fifth one in the history of our parish. Alexander Michal bravely suffered through the ritual of joining the catholic community. Everybody present welcomed him with a prayer and a round of applause.

The short downpour did not spoil our outdoor gathering. It only helped us add another meal under an improvised “ roof” made out of a tarp. Our guests from Cleveland won the volleyball tournament this time. Oh, well, one cannot win all the time…. “Kliwlend Kru” brought two DJs and the party by the campfire went on till the next morning. It was a fun time filled with delicious  food, sports and dancing.  The kids are asking already when they will get to camp again. Ewa and Janek, thank you.

Due to the uncertain whether the annual PAC Picnic  took place in “the barn”. We got our fill of stuffed cabbage rolls and homemade desserts. We also had plenty of Polish beer and the excellent wine made by the International Gold Medal winner.  We danced to the tunes of “Rey Galla and His Polka Gems”. Joanna took care of the face painting . The games for the youngest ones prepared Malgosia C.  The rest of the event preparation was taken care of by the usual group of wonderful people who always attend the PAC meetings and plan the Polish gatherings. The commentaries  on this party and many others writes for you Marzena.
The earnings from this party contributed $104 to the PAC scholarship fund and one more family joined the club. Our numbers are growing. Friendships are formed. The kids are looking forward to being together. And that’s what this is all about. See you at next camping trip / aerobic class / volleyball match / Polish Mass / PACanow class and so forth….

YogaBear Club and V-Ball Club said goodbye to Wojtek in style. There were plenty of players on the court and plenty of food on the table. Our aerobic ladies were busy not only on the court but also babysitting.  The falling night made everybody finally go home. We hope that Wojtek will remember us fondly.  And that some day he will again join  the Fun Club 304 in cheering for the Columbus Crew (wearing his new jersey, of course- thanks to Eliza and Robert!)

Marzanna
;-)

We feel sorry for everybody who could not come to this annual spring picnic organized by the PAC Club. To everybody who could have but did not - your loss. We had an exceptionally nice day for Ohio. It has not been this sunny and warm in the last five years we "scared" winter away. The students of PACanow were there and knew well why they were there and what to do. They were proudly using the rattles made during their club's meetings. We also had five dogs present. Along with taking care of the main goal of the gathering (making sure that winter is gone for good) we had a very good time and very good food. Supported by proof in the form of pictures (on this page + PICs) and the testimony of witnesses:
I PRONOUNCE THE DESTRUCTION OF WINTER!

• Bad day? Go to artegemini.

. I have given this basic advice to many people on numerous occasions. Here it is one more time though, in writing:
  1. If you have underage children - write a will, please. In case of your sudden death their future will be decided by you not by local bureaucrats. This way your children will have a chance to be raised by loved ones (family or friends, possibly in Poland) not by court appointed strangers.
  2. If you have a mortgage on your house - buy a life insurance policy worth at least as much as the remaining mortgage, please. The sooner the better because younger age and good health will qualify you for lower monthly premiums. If tragedy happens the family you leave behind will still have a roof over their heads. They will be spared at least that problem.

. In life's most tragic moments we can see clearly how important our small but organized Polish community is. When one has to say goodbye to a beloved family member it is hard to overestimate the support of a group of reliable friends and acquaintances, and the Polish Mass. We thank the organizers for the beautiful Mass said for the soul of Slawek and everybody for attending. The sorrowed family was not left alone.

Hello Polish American Club, The students at The Ohio State University have started our own Polish Club. We have been chosen to be a part of Taste of OSU this year (on Friday, January 29th)! It is an amazing opportunity to get our club visible around campus, potentially get new members and have over 800 people taste some delicious Polish food. We have already chosen the menu: cheese and potato pierogis, kielbasa, sweet cheese nalesniki, and karpatka for dessert. YUM! Since we have just started the club, we do not have many student members and we really need as many people as possible to help put our booth (food preparation, decorations, etc) together during the next two weeks. The school will be buying all of our ingredients and gave us three time slots for next week to do the cooking in the school kitchens but we would love for some Polish American members to come help with some authentic polish cooking!! Dear Friends, The National D-Day Memorial in Virginia has decided honor Josef Stalin by placing his bust on a pedestal at its museum. Several Polish war veterans in New York, who fought against Stalin and Hitler, have asked me to write something about this outrageous development. As my father and grandfather both fought against Nazi and Soviet troops during WWII, I could not sit back silently without commenting. Here is the article on the Huffington Post. Feel free to add your own comments. If you are as outraged as
I am, please send a letter to the President of the D-Day Memorial, William McIntosh, or to President Barack Obama at: whitehouse.com . Please let them know how you feel about the United States honoring Stalin with his bust in this memorial. Sincerely, Alex Storozynski President & Executive Director The Kosciuszko Foundation

2010 - 600th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF GRUNWALD

The battle that took place six hundred years ago on the fields between Grunwald, Stębark, Łodwigów and the Lake Lubień seems to be exceptional not only when compared with other battles of the Middle Ages, but also in the whole history of Europe. It has a special place in our compatriots’ consciousness who know, for sure, only two historical dates: their birthday and 1410.

Merry Christmas ski fans. Do not overload. Let me know if you want to join for skiing the Mad River Mtn. We have a lot of cold, white, fluffy stuff on the slopes and brown, hot, testy stuff in the lunch room (plus salads and drinks). You can stretch your limbs, improve your skill and relax by the fireplace in the loft. A lot of fun, Greg tel. 614.495.1727 (gs)

• Driven by our patriotism last Sunday afternoon we gathered at the Polish exhibit in Tuttle Crossing Mall. We wanted to proudly represent our community during the International Parade. The exhibit was beautiful thanks to Kasia and Grzegorz. We looked awesome ourselves; a group of almost thirty dressed in red and white or just dressed up for the occasion. Unfortunately, nobody from the board of the Polish Club joined us. And it turned out that the parade was cancelled. Let me express both great appreciation and heartfelt apologies for that unfortunate situation to everybody who was there (I am not really sure though whom they should be coming from .) On a positive note, there are still people around here who can always be counted on!

• So - Friday, the 13th..oops!

• PACanow attended a Jazz Concert. The kids loved it. They knew the tunes (mostly lullabies). They could listen, dance, sing and eat (PB&J, juice box and a cookie were included in the ticket price). Even four month old Natalka was moving to the rhythm, almost like in the included video clip. Definitely something worth doing again. A wonderful experience for $5/person.

• To mark the 1st anniversary of our Yoga Bear Club we met , as an exception, at "our" Tim Horton's. There were more of us than usual. We stuffed ourselves with donuts and drank hot, sweet cider. Now we have something to work on in the upcoming year!
